Days 3–5: Lock the Opening Plan
Remove preventable blockers. Submit certificates of insurance (COIs) and access forms, reserve the freight elevator, confirm vendor dates, and place the urgent orders.
Days 3–5: Lock the Opening Plan
Goal: remove preventable blockers. This is the window where the cheap, knowable problems get solved — before lead times turn them into expensive ones.
Do
- Submit certificates of insurance (COIs) and access-request forms.
- Reserve the freight elevator / loading dock.
- Confirm after-hours rules and vendor start dates.
- Confirm furniture delivery/install dates and internet/network readiness.
- Confirm the conference-room / audio/visual (AV) path.
- Place kitchen, pantry, office-supply, and cleaning orders (see the Kitchen Startup Order List).
- Confirm janitorial scope.
- Draft the employee pre-move communication.
Run the Property Manager Intake Questions now if you haven’t — most of these blockers route through the building.
Active workstreams
- Property Manager & Building Rules
- FF&E · IT, Network, AV
- Finance & Procurement — set approval thresholds before the urgent orders.
Output
- An opening plan
- A vendor schedule
- A building-approvals tracker
- A purchase tracker
The mindset
Almost every painful move-day failure is administrative — a missing COI, an unreserved elevator, a vendor outside approved hours. They’re all preventable this week, and nearly impossible to fix the day before. Spend these days asking and submitting, not waiting.
