Day porter
An on-site person who handles daytime upkeep — trash, kitchen, restrooms, common areas — while people are in the office.
Day porter
A day porter is someone who handles upkeep during the workday — emptying trash, tidying the kitchen and restrooms, resetting common areas — as opposed to the nightly janitorial crew that cleans after hours.
Why you care: a busy office can get messy by mid-afternoon, especially the kitchen and restrooms. Knowing whether you have (or need) a day porter, and whether the building provides one, helps you set expectations and avoid the “why is the kitchen a disaster at 2pm?” problem. It’s one row in your janitorial responsibility matrix — landlord, tenant, or vendor.
